Etiology :

It's inflammation of lid margin due to infestation with phthirus pubis( the pubic louse) and rarely by the head louse.

The cilia become covered with nits which are glued to lashed by alkaline cement.

Treatment:

1-Dilute acetic acid 2% to loosen the nits. It dissolves the cement substance which glues nits to the cilia.

2- Yellow oxide of mercury ointment 1% is applied to the lid to destroy the larvae, continued for 3 weeks.

3- Cutting the lashes may facilitate the treatment.
